This was worth a reblog because of a 4th way to check, and two good sources from Apple on the matter:
systemsetup -getkernelbootarchitecturesetting
Will tell you if it’s been modified from the default setting, which is still 32-bit for everything except two models of mac, the 2010MacPros and the Early2011MacBook Pro’s(aka thunderhole). References:

Mac OS X v10.6: Starting up with the 32-bit or 64-bit kernel
